Vecxi is pleased to introduce Transparency, an ongoing series of digital artworks by Toron Smith. The collection features overlayed graphics separated to mask or reveal commentary often shrouded in satire. All artworks are digitally rendered and created with the intention of collaboration through physical production and collection.
Transparency explores the artist’s reconciliation of lived experiences traversing the terrain of the everyday ordinary while striving to maintain a relatedness or relevant relationship to an omnipresent yet seemingly distant higher power. A secondary theme of the series comments on growing up between the intersection of analog and digital confluence in the late twentieth century, paralleled to the present day. The artworks utilize bold contrasting graphics and multi-layered visual cues through the use of familiar iconography that highlight depictions of the monotonous, often veiled in silhouettes.
The development of Smith’s digital assemblage alternates between the application of primary vector visuals and occasional raster formatting. The use of raster structuring provides rich image and editing options with emphasis on detail, while a vector foundation allows for surgical creative precision with a caveat of limitless scaling without quality degradation.
At its foundation, Transparency is a conceptual collection that requires that each artwork is completed in equal participation of thirds. The artist lays the foundation—providing the creative vision and labor. The patron collector contributes ownership leverage and sourcing direction. While production specialists execute digital-to-physical processes, transferring the artwork from proof to frame.
